Private Pilot Licence

The minimum requirements as set out by Transport Canada include 40 hours of ground instruction and 45 hours of flight time. However, most students take longer than the minimum time to attain the skills required to pass the flight test. A typical student can expect to pay the following:

Ground School:
Tuition 40 hours - $400.00
Books, study materials (may be purchased at Super T Aviation) - $300.00

Flight Training:
45 Hours Dual Instruction @ $195.00/hour - $8775.00
20 Hours Supervised Solo @ $150.00/hour - $3000.00

Total Course Minimum - $12475.00

Unless special arrangements are made through the Chief Flying Instructor, all costs are due at time of expenditure.
Medical examination is the responsibility of the student. Average medical cost is $150.00.
Flight test, Transport Canada Licencing fees and examination fees are extra. These costs run $605.00 on average.

Commercial Pilot Licence

Ground School:
Tuition 80 hours - $800.00
Books, study materials (may be purchased at Super T Aviation) - $200.00

Flight Training:
35 Hours Dual Instruction @ $195.00/hour - $6825.00
30 Hours Supervised Solo @ $150.00/hour - $4500.00

Total Course Minimum - $12325.00

All prices are based on TRANSPORT CANADA MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS. The Commercial Pilot Licence requires a minimum of 200 hours total time. 100 hours of this time must be solo. Build up time is required since the Transport Canada minimums do not equal the required 200 Hours of Total Time. The above estimate includes the night rating. Actual cost will vary depending on student ability and study skills.

Night Rating

Flight Training:
5 Hours Dual Instrument @ $195.00/hour - $975.00

Total Course Minimum - $2700.00

Transport requires ten hours of total instrument time for issue of the Night Rating. Most Private Pilots will have 5 hours that count to this total. Pilots who obtained their licence prior to the PPL instrument requirement will need to complete the full ten hours.

Total Course Minimum - $3380.00

There is no Transport Canada Minimum Training requirement. Hours required are based on safety and the ability to meet the Flight Test Standards.
